Working in a Preschool....

Working in a preschool you hear and see all kinds of interesting things!!  Today, in particular, a situation has stuck in my mind and I thought I would share.  I was sitting at my desk and I was distracted by the sound of one of our preschool children crying.  I decided to take a walk back into the classroom and investigate....I asked the teacher what was wrong and she said she had tried to ask the child several times but he won't tell her. I approached the little boy (3 1/2 yrs.), bent down next to him and asked him what was wrong-he didn't answer, I tried again-no answer.  So I then asked him if he was sad, he shook his head NO (still crying), I asked him if he needed a hug, he again shook his head NO.  I then noticed he slowly turned and looked behind him and the only thing I saw back there was the tray of snack that had just been brought from the kitchen so I asked him, are you hungry-and sure enough he shook his head yes!!  I hurried and cleaned the table, so relieved we had figured out the crying, and I immediately served him up a warm grilled cheese.  As I walked back to my desk and sat down I overheard, more than one time, the little boy say "I am so happy", and when the teacher would ask why he responded "because I have a full belly"..........i just sat back and smiled :-) I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes by Shel Silverstein, enjoy.......................

“Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.”
